Abstract
Introduction: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of teaching effective communication skills on the self- esteem of girls with physical-mobility disability who were resident of Mashhad, Iran.Materials and Methods: In a quasi-experimental study involving pre- and post-testing of a single group, 15 subjects were recruited from Fayyazbakhsh center of Mashhad using the convenience sampling method. All participants, who were 15 to 30 year-old unmarried girls, completed Coopersmith Self-esteem Inventory (SEI). Then, they participated in a ten-session group training program on effective communication skills. Correlated t test was used for statistical analysis of data.Results: The study results indicated that effective communication skills training are significantly associated with an increase in the subjects’ self-esteem.Conclusion: The findings implicate that the learning of effective communication skills can promote self-esteem of the girls with physical-mobility disability studied.Keywords: Effective communication skills, Self-esteem, Physical- mobility disability
