Abstract
Introduction: Occupational burnout includes emotional tiredness, personality obsolesce and lack of personal abilities. Nurses are subject to exhaustion due to exposure to intense physical, mental and emotional stresses. The purpose of this study was evaluating the effects of an 8-week physical training program on the burnout of nurses. Materials and Methods: Jackson And Maslash questionnaire was distributed among 24 nurses at the onset and at the end of the 8-week training program. The data were statistically analyzed using SPSS software. Results: result indicated that the average amount of emotional tiredness and personality obsolesce reduced following the 8-week exercise (P < 0.001). Moreover, the average scores of individual successfulness increased at the termination of the program (P < 0.001). The results of Friedman test for the hierarchy of factor changes showed that the factor of emotional tiredness underwent more changes than did the personality obsolesce and lack of individual successfulness factors (P < 0.050). Conclusion: Based on the study results, it can be concluded that mid-upward level of occupational burnout among nurses have devastating effects on their occupational, family and individual functioning which renders them to frequent absenteeism and premature retiring.
